Dear Resident, For some time, residents across College Grove, Eastmoor and Portobello have told us about persistent problems with anti-social driving, particularly around schools and residential estates. We also know that criminals are using vehicles to transport and deal drugs in and out of the area. This behaviour puts our communities at risk, and we are taking direct action.
To tackle this head-on, specialist Traffic Officers from the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) have been deployed into the ward. These officers bring advanced skills, experience and a zero-tolerance approach to those who use our roads to commit crime or endanger others.
On their first operation in the area, the team issued a number of traffic offences, including: 1 × Not being in proper control of a vehicle 5 × Not wearing seatbelts 2 × Non-conforming VRM (vehicle registration issues) 1 × Prohibited U-turn 1 × Mobile phone use while driving 1 × Vehicle in a dangerous condition 1 × Parking within Zig-Zag crossing markings
This is just the start. These targeted patrols will continue over the coming weeks and months with a clear objective: to remove the means for criminals to operate and to keep our roads safe for everyone who lives, works and travels in the area.
Alongside this, our NPT officers continue to run joint operations with the Police Interceptor Team (PIT) to disrupt drug supply networks operating within the ward.
